Al-Babtain receives honorary doctorate from Stirling University

Acclaimed Kuwaiti poet and humanitarian person Abdul-Aziz Saud Al-Babtain received an honorary doctorate from the University of Stirling in Scotland for his creative writing and poetry, philanthropy and activism for peace, according to the university’s website.

Al-Babtain became the first Arab to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Stirling during a ceremony held for more than 750 graduates from various colleges, which also marked the golden jubilee of the university.

The ceremonial procession was presided over by the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling, Professor Gerry McCormack at the university’s headquarters.

In his role, Dr Al-Babtain said “honor he has received from the University of Stirling is more than just a certificate. It is a great message that bears noble objective to encourage everyone in investing their intellectual and financial abilities or part of it to bring joy to humanity and enhance humanitarianism, and to commit and exert efforts to advance the aspects of culture, education and teaching”.

Al-Babtain expressed appreciation and gratitude to the university, its principal, academic board, lecturers, administration and students for the honorary doctorate. He said “it is a wonderful thing for a person to see his efforts in supporting culture and humanity yield success and to be appreciated by several cultural and academic bodies”.

For more than a quarter of a century, the humanitarian message of the Abdul-Aziz Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation has strongly attracted many to its humanitarian activities and endeavors to promote better intercultural relations and understanding around the world, he noted.

He pointed out that the work has been made possible through the foundation’s role in alternating dialogues in several cultural capitals in Arabia, Europe, Asia and America, and through sponsorship of annual university scholarships and professorships seats at Arab, Islamic and European universities and training courses in Prosody, Appreciating Poetry and Arabic language skills.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling Professor Gerry McCormack stated the university is proud to honor those who embody the university’s values of excellence, ambition and openness, considered to be role models to graduates.
